Connecting positively with Pasifika youth, supporting them to discover and enhance their underlying strength and purpose to meet life's challenges with confidence.
Aiga
Overview
The Aiga programme is delivered by fitness experts, a registered psychologist, and leaders from within the Pasifika community. There is a strong integration with the aiga/family of youth involved, as well as the wider Pasifika community through existing partnerships with churches, schools, and other local Pasifika groups.
The programme provides opportunities for participants to build skills and understanding about mental well-being, physical well-being and cultural lead sessions which encompass traditional practices from an array of Pasifika communities. Fitness sessions are incorporated into each session which allows connections to grow between students and facilitators. Our registered psychologist delivers weekly activities focussed on mental health equipping students with solutions and strategies and providing opportunities for one-on-one discussions if needed.

"I like that there is different schools, and that I am able to make new friends and meet new people. When I first came in I was kind of shy, didn’t really know anyone besides my school… How to straighten our mental health as well, and surrounding ourselves with positiveness instead of negativity and all that."
Tai - Otumoetai College
"I have been attending the Aiga Programme for like two years now. I really like the Aiga Programme because they bring a lot of people in together, like who need help with stuff. Like with their family problems, their school problems. I took out of it how to help my friends - like if they are in trouble with their mental health and stuff. And I know how to look after them and check up on them."
Junior - Mount College
"I have enjoyed taking out all the knowledge and advice from all the talking we have gone through. And from all the guest speakers I have enjoyed taking in what they have been telling us and the stories they bring into us. It really does inspire us and it does give us a positive attitude and learn more about life."
Lute - Tauranga Girls’ College
